CHRONICLES OF TACTICA XVII FARIS OUTRIDER
Welcome back to Chronicles of Tactica, the series where we explore the strengths and strategies of individual models in the Eldfall Chronicles lineup. Today we are taking a look at the best abs in town. That is right, we are looking at Faris Outrider.
PROFILE CHARACTERISTICS & PLAYSTYLE
The Faris Outrider costs 18 points, and you can field up to two in your list. At this price point, it’s slightly more expensive than average, but it brings plenty of value. With the Rogue Class, you gain access to Knockdown, while the Artificer Class provides a unique advantage: Faris can cast one of three Enchantments on himself for free at the start of each turn—a massive bonus, given how potent those Enchantments are.
Stat-wise, Faris is stellar for the Sand Kingdoms. With OFF 14 (and you’ll actually use it here), AG 12, and HP 2, he boasts one of the most well-rounded statlines in the faction.
The Skills and Traits elevate him further. He brings the usual Survival (Scorching) for terrain flexibility, while Stealth I rewards careful positioning. Follow Up I is a nightmare for disengaging enemies—perfect for chasing down pesky mages. And then there’s Taunt, a standout ability. As covered in our CoT – Onitaoshi article, Taunt drains enemy reactions just by placing them in your Awareness. The Faris amplifies this with his loud, flashy Enchantment casting, disrupting your opponent’s plans with ease.
Faris’s Inventory adds even more utility. His Dagger is standard, and his Sword is a solid melee option. However, the real game-changer is the Arcane Lantern, which grants Vigilance and cancels Shrouded within his Awareness, shutting down opponents’ sneaky tactics.
Finally, we get to his three enchantment Spells, which enhance his versatility:
- Arcane Shield – Boosts ARM and protects against crits, making Faris surprisingly tanky for a Sand Kingdom model.
- Spectral Blade – Improves offense by granting Ignore Armor and Stagger to all attacks.
- Hasten – Provides a free, reaction-proof move during the Strategic Phase, perfect for closing gaps or escaping tight spots.
Faris thrives as a midfield brawler, with enough tricks to take on all but the most skilled duelists. His toolkit allows him to counter multiple threats, control space, and even support allies with enchantments when needed.
TOP UPGRADES
- Spear
Boosting his RCH to 2 is invaluable, especially for leveraging Follow Up and Hasten effectively. - Elemental Lineage
Adding Fire Affinity expands his spell arsenal dramatically, giving access to powerful offensive options via Artificer. - Flying Carpet
For those looking to push aggression even further, the Flying Carpet lets Faris engage enemy backlines and wreak havoc where they least expect it.
CONCLUDING THOUGHTS
The Faris Outrider embodies the Sand Kingdoms’ versatility. While he lacks ranged attacks, he compensates with exceptional utility and mobility. Whether drawing reactions with Taunt, shutting down stealth with his Arcane Lantern, or protecting allies with Arcane Shield, he’s a Swiss Army knife of disruption. Best of all, his Follow Up makes him a terror for backline spellcasters, who will find it nearly impossible to escape his reach. Add in above-average survivability for the faction, and you’ve got a rock-solid unit—literally and figuratively.
Those abs don’t lie. 😉
