CHRONICLES OF TACTICA XXII FLAMEWEAVER ERRANT

Welcome back to Chronicles of Tactica, where we delve into individual models from the Eldfall Chronicles range and learn how to maximize their effectiveness on the tabletop. This time, we’re shining the spotlight on the sword-and-sorcery specialist of the Helian League—the Flameweaver Errant!

PROFILE CHARACTERISTICS & PLAYSTYLE

The Errant clocks in at 21 points, with a limit of 2 if you’re looking for a hefty investment. Its Artificer Class ensures you always benefit from your own Enchantments, while the Soldier Class helps bolster both your stats and those of your fellow Soldiers.

These stats are already impressive on their own. Each stat sits comfortably above average—except for ACC, but who needs a bow when you’ve got fire? Notably, ARM 3 and HP 2 make the Errant surprisingly durable for a spellcaster.

Among the Traits, you’ll see the ever-welcome Resourceful I, plus Affinity (Fire) for your spellcasting endeavors. Most importantly, Tactician I extends your deployment zone by 5 inches, a critical advantage for the Helian League, which can sometimes struggle to close in on the fight quickly.

The Errant also possesses Fencing I, a handy boost to melee power. And with such strong close-combat potential, you’ll be glad to have the Mastercrafted Helrin Sword in your Inventory. It grants +1 STK in your active turn, effectively taking your Strike (STK) to 3—a solid foundation for slicing through foes. Sorcery I grants access to Ignite, a reliable ranged Spell that complements the Errant’s formidable melee skills.

  • Enchanting III is where things get really interesting. This suite of Spells includes:
    • Burning Touch, which adds Sweep and Burn for crowd control;
    • Melting Touch, perfect for cutting through heavily armored foes;
    • Flameskin, the bane of assassins such as the Nightshade, punishing any attempt to attack you in melee.

STRATAGEM

As if that weren’t enough, the Flameweaver Errant brings along four Stratagems:

  1. March – Grants +1 SPD to your Soldiers.
  2. Rally the Troops – Prevents Soldiers from entering the Panicked State.
  3. Expeditionary Paragon – Temporarily promotes a friendly model to Soldier Class, unlocking stat boosts it wouldn’t otherwise have.
  4. Striking Momentum – Offers extra reach to Soldiers in the reactive turn, potentially closing off your opponent’s maneuvering options if used cleverly.

All of this culminates in a well-rounded model that can attack at range, bolster allies via Enchantments, and truly excel in close combat. If chosen as a Leader, the Errant provides tremendous support to other Soldiers—so it’s worth considering how they’ll fit into your list.

TOP UPGRADES

    • Companion of Harion
      For just 2 points, gain +1 to most of the Errant’s stats. Extremely cost-effective.
    • Expeditionary Tactics: Surge Order
      Combine this with Tactician to nearly start in the middle of the field. It grants your team crucial mobility, especially early on.
    • Glyphscribe: Reduce Weight
      You can push your STK to 4 in your active turn or bump your SPD to 6/7—both invaluable for closing in on your opponent.

    FINAL THOUGHTS

    The Flameweaver Errant makes for a strong, well-rounded (and slightly cheaper) Leader option compared to the Hierophant. You’ll want to invest in Soldier models to get the most out of its Stratagems, but that’s hardly a dealbreaker. The Errant is a capable melee fighter with a versatile Enchantment toolkit and a potent ranged spell for good measure. Overall, it’s a solid, adaptable package that can handle itself in close combat while offering support to the rest of your Helian League forces.
