LINK TO FEBRUARY ERRATA COMMENTARY

At the very end of February, we released our latest errata for the Eldfall Chronicles Skirmish game. It was a wide-ranging update that mostly improved the overall quality of the game and ease of understanding by consolidating wording and clarifying various situations.

We have kept the files fluid over the last month, weeding out small mistakes and missed situations that needed clarification. With the last batch of these minor updates going live today, we are concluding this fluid period and locking down the 1.6 rules until the next errata cycle.

But first, we need to address the elephant in the room, which is included in this final update: Impede being changed to a Melee-only Attack.

Impede was always envisioned as a powerful control tool, especially when combined with ranged attacks. We wanted to include ranged attacks that are impactful beyond just potential damage and that represent the suppressive effect these weapons can have. However, in practice, this led to very frustrating situations for the player on the reactive side, where at least part of the counterplay depended on external factors such as the battlefield layout.

We attempted to remedy this with the Smokescreen Upgrade, providing additional tools to deal with the situation. However, after a month, it has become clear that this is simply not enough. While experienced players may be able to navigate around this oppressive ability, it can be very punishing and lead to a poor early experience for players, making them feel like they are not allowed to play the game. Because of this, we have decided to remove ranged Impede from the game for now and keep it as a Melee-only ability.

The rest of the changes over the last month have been corrections of oversights and consolidations of wording across many abilities to bring them in line. We have also updated the FAQ to correspond with the 1.6 rulebook.

Going forward, the rulebook will remain at version 1.6. If any issues arise, they will be noted and included in future errata cycles as needed. The FAQ file will be updated somewhat more frequently, but we will aim to keep updates to less than once per month. The next step will be the transition to Competitive Season 2, so keep an eye out for more information on that topic in the coming weeks.

Once again, thank you all for being part of this journey with us, and happy adventuring!

Yours,
Samo and the EC Team
