CHRONICLES OF TACTICA X BUSHI ATTENDANT

Welcome back to Chronicles of Tactica, an article series where we take a closer look at individual models in the Eldfall Chronicles range and how to use them on the tabletop. Today, we’re continuing our deep dive into the Soga faction. Today, we return to the Empire of Soga to explore the profile of the Bushi Attendant—the Empire’s ideal “sandal bearer” and squire, who can also carry the day on the battlefield.

PROFILE CHARACTERISTICS & PLAYSTYLE

Up until now, we’ve been focusing on some of the pricier models in the Empire of Soga. In a surprising twist, today we’re looking at the currently cheapest model in the game, here to support your fancy Champions and Onitaoshis! At just 13 points, the Bushi Attendant holds the title of the least expensive model available. With a limit of 4 per list, you can field a whole squad. However, as we say here in Slovenia, “little money, little music.” This is evident in the Bushi’s basic setup: only the Warrior Class, but with its bow, the model is well positioned to take advantage of the Defensive Stance that Class offers.

When it comes to stats, the Bushi Attendant boasts average numbers across the board. Notable standouts include a decent ACC of 12 and surprisingly good durability for such a cheap unit, with ARM 4 and HP 2. There are no special abilities or rules attached to the Bushi Attendant, which is to be expected at this price point.
On the battlefield, the Bushi functions as a zone control piece. While not excelling in any particular type of combat, it brings Reactions—especially at range—that your opponents must respect (essentially draining them of their AP), helping you maintain control of the board.

While the Bushi isn’t exactly “flashy” (we’ll leave the dramatic entrances to the Clan Champion), there is some variety in the Weapons. For Melee combat, you’ve got a Short Sword and a Dagger—reliable but nothing remarkable. The real star of the kit is the Short Bow, which allows the Bushi to fulfill its primary role on the battlefield: locking down lanes from range and applying pressure to your opponent’s positions.

 TOP UPGRADES

  • Kassen Buki: Daikyuu-tsukai
  • First Aid
  • Additional Protection.

Daikyuu-tsukai is by far the best Upgrade for the Bushi Attendant. For just 2 points, it upgrades your Short Bow by increasing its RCH, PW, and adding the powerful Stagger Effect. While you lose 1 STK and pay the 2 points, the trade-off is well worth it. Secondly, the Bushi Attendant makes a great First Aid carrier for the faction, as the model tends to hang back, allowing your more powerful models to take on more impactful Upgrades. Lastly, Additional Protection is a solid choice here, as doubling down on ARM significantly boosts survivability.

CONCLUDING THOUGHTS

In summary, the Bushi Attendant may not bring anything flashy to the table, even less so than some of the model’s counterparts. However, excels in the role of a control piece and is extremely affordable. Sometimes, quantity has its own quality!
