COALITION OF THENION

FACTION

Said to be the most mysterious of all Calad’s regions, Thenion is one of two lands inhabited by the Rin peoples. In contrast to the fairer and more orderly Helrin, the Rin of Thenion—known as Thenrin—bear ashen skin, shaped by generations of life in darkness. Their nature is marked by mischief, fierce individualism, and an unrelenting thirst for fulfillment.
During the Age of Dusk, as darkness crept ever closer to their ancestral shores, a portion of the Rin fled in search of refuge. Swallowed by the endless night, battered by unforgiving seas, and haunted by what lurked beneath them, they endured a harrowing odyssey—sustained only by the brief, dim light that appeared once per day. This voyage, believed to have lasted over a decade, tested their resilience beyond measure.
At last, under an especially clear sky, they glimpsed the fleeting moon. As if guided by Thea-Luna, the Moon Goddess, they discovered a new land. There, they came upon a vast island honeycombed with caves and tunnel systems lit by purple and red crystal formations glowing from within the earth.
Though they rarely ventured to the cold, shadowed surface, they would emerge during moonlit nights to worship Thea-Luna and her Seven Patron Gods. The Lunar Equinox became their most sacred festival, and they named themselves Thenrin—Rin of the Moon.
Over time, they colonized the underground, transforming natural cave systems into sophisticated subterranean cities, each ruled by a matriarch. Within these cities, powerful guilds compete for influence, wealth, and prestige. Their ethics are often considered unconventional by surface societies—rooted in passion, cunning, and a tempestuous spirit said to have been inherited from the Night itself.
Daily life in the undercities is filled with pleasures and chaos—merrymaking, brawling, and indulgence. Yet when matters grow serious, the Thenrin reveal their mastery of skullduggery, subterfuge, and tactical finesse. In fact, they are often sought after for the handling of "delicate" affairs best conducted in the shadows. The concept of a standing army is foreign to them. Instead, guilds provide protection, fielding warriors when external threats arise.

THENRIN

The population of the Coalition is smaller than that of the other great factions, yet denser within its settled regions. Subterranean cities—known as Hollows—are carved into vast cave systems illuminated by glowing crystal formations. These settlements are often widely spaced, separated by long stretches of barren stone, unlit tunnels, and forgotten ruins.
The Thenrin themselves are a distinct subrace of Rin, shaped by countless generations of life in darkness. They are one of the first mortal species believed to have been created during the Age of Elders, unlike humans, who are not native to the world of Calad. A single Rin can live for several centuries, with most reaching around two hundred years—witnessing the rise and fall of many human generations.

They are marked by pointed ears, ashen skin in a variety of tones, and hair ranging from white and sand to deeper, darker hues. Their features often reflect their connection to the moon and the night, and their bodies are well-adapted to the demanding subterranean environment.
Like their Helrin kin, the Thenrin possess a natural affinity for mana, though they rarely channel it through traditional spellcasting. Instead, they favor latent arcane use, enhancing their physical strength, speed, and reflexes through subtle magical augmentation—a seamless fusion of might and magic.
Thenrin society is matriarchal at its core. Each Hollow is ruled by a dominant matriarchal house, surrounded by a complex web of guilds that govern commerce, defense, artistry, and faith. Their cities, though hidden beneath the surface, pulse with culture, intrigue, and fierce individuality.
While predominantly Thenrin, the population also includes significant numbers of chimera tribes—most notably Lamias and Harpies—as well as certain types of lesser demons, who have found a place within the Coalition. These groups often serve in roles that align with their unique traits, further diversifying the social and cultural fabric of Thenrin society.
Unlike many surface cultures, Thenrin society places little value on uniformity or bloodlines. Instead, influence is earned through passion, cunning, skill, and personal accomplishment. Those who prove themselves—whether through artistry, combat, magic, or manipulation—rise in esteem. Those who do not simply fade into the shadows of the Hollows.

The Thenrin are a subrace of the Rin, who fled their ancestral homeland during the Age of Dusk. Forced to abandon their lands as darkness advanced, they endured a decade-long sea-bound exile, guided only by brief flashes of moonlight. Eventually, under the guidance of the Moon Goddess Thea-Luna, they discovered a volcanic island laced with glowing caverns. They named it Thenion. Making this underground realm their home, they named themselves Thenrin—“Rin of the Moon.”

Rin are born with an innate affinity for the arcane.
Thenrin possess innate mana sensitivity. they favor enhancing physical abilities such as strength, agility, and reflexes with mana. This arcane style makes them formidable in close combat and stealth. Some are also proficient in elemental magic, most often tied to water or ice.

Thenrin are defined by their long adaptation to subterranean life.

Their skin tends to be ashen or pale, with tones ranging from silver to violet-gray.

Hair colors include white, ash-blonde, silver, moss green, or the deep black of shadowed stone.

Their luminous eyes adjust quickly to changes in light, a trait well-suited to the crystal-lit caverns they call home.

Physically, they are lean and agile, with pointed ears that mark their Rin heritage.

Thenrin culture is often seen by outsiders as unruly, even indecent, shaped by stark contrasts—sensuality and discipline, revelry and cold pragmatism. Their values center on individuality, ambition, and personal skill, with little regard for tradition or inherited status. Loyalty tends to lie with one’s guild or city rather than family, and social standing is earned, not given. Their society is both meritocratic and matriarchal, governed by those who prove themselves capable, not simply by birthright.

GAMEPLAY

As their lore suggests, the Thenrin do not rely on professional standing armies—an aspect that is clearly reflected in their playstyle. While their models are not particularly resilient, they are the fastest and most mobile of the four major factions.
Thenrin excel at roguish tactics, guerrilla warfare, and deceptive maneuvers. Their units thrive on speed, positioning, and misdirection, allowing you to harass, flank, or disengage at will. Their gameplay encourages you to strike from multiple angles, apply pressure through cunning and stealth, and avoid prolonged head-on engagements.
Mastery of the Thenrin lies in knowing when to appear, when to vanish, and how to exploit openings before slipping back into the shadows.
