Arcane Might Unleashed – Scholar’s Seal
The Grand Academy is sending its reinforcements to the battlefield!
The Reinforcements Pack: Scholar’s Seal expands the Sand Kingdoms with three new combatants: the versatile Djinnborn Marzban, a battle-hardened Academy Expeditioner, and a heavily armored Shieldbearer.
Magic has always been the key strength of the Sand Kingdoms, and Scholar’s Seal expands on that. The new reinforcements bring some much-needed spellcasting synergy, new ways to utilize Mana, and some physical frontline presence to keep your valuable spellcasters out of melee.
Let’s take a closer look at what they bring to the table.
Djinnborn Marzban
Djinnborn Marzbans are accomplished battlemages and military leaders, combining their elemental lineage with the arcane traditions of the Grand Academy.
The Djinnborn joins the Sand Kingdoms as a new leader candidate, and perhaps unsurprisingly, he works particularly well when surrounded by other sorcerers.
One of his greatest strengths is his elemental versatility. His Affinity can be freely chosen, allowing you to tailor his magic to your party’s needs.
Flicker allows him to move around the battlefield quickly and potentially avoid danger altogether. His Glyphs of Warding grant him the permanent Arcane Shield enchantment, providing additional armor that is not reduced by Critical Hits.
Sorcery IV, combined with the rare spellcasting combat art of Metamagic, gives you a spellcaster capable of bringing all sorts of calamity down upon the enemy.
But the Djinnborn isn’t just here to cast spells. His Stratagems enhance other mages and sorcerers in the party, allowing them to interact with the battlefield more confidently and get even more out of their arcanum.
For a faction already capable of fielding some very powerful spellcasters, having a leader who can bring them together and push their magic even further opens up plenty of new tactics and list-building options.
Academy Expeditioner
Scholarly expeditions into ruins and rifts beneath the roaring dunes aren’t exactly safe. When research takes members of the Grand Academy into dangerous territory, Academy Expeditioners are there to make sure they (hopefully) come back.
These hardened battlemages combine martial training with offensive sorcery and are much more comfortable fighting on the frontline than most other spellcasters in the faction.
Decent maille armor and 2 HP allow them to handle midfield confrontations and either tie down or disable most types of enemies.
A well-placed Soul Crush can also make your opponent rethink where to charge you from.
Shieldbearer
Of course, all that magical knowledge doesn’t help much if your scholars get peppered with arrows or swarmed in melee.
That’s where the Shieldbearer comes in.
These veterans of the Sand Kingdoms’ mercenary companies are heavily armored frontline fighters, equipped to stand between their contractors and whatever is trying to kill them.
Their signature Great Shield, granting combined ARM 9, makes them exceptionally difficult to bring down with missile attacks. On top of that, it extends its ARM +4 bonus to adjacent allies. This makes the Shieldbearer a more versatile alternative to Golems.
But the Shieldbearer isn’t there just to soak up damage. One-on-one, they can handle most enemies with their shield and battle axe. Against more dangerous opponents, their Slayer Blades can hold monsters and enemy fighters at bay, giving the rest of the party room to do their work.
And being Mercenaries, their services aren’t limited to the Sand Kingdoms. Other factions can recruit them as well, opening up quite a few party compositions outside their native roster.
Arcane Superiority
The Sand Kingdoms have always been defined by their exceptional magical versatility, but getting the most out of that magic can require lots of strategy and coordination.
Scholar’s Seal gives the faction a more proactive and direct way to turn that knowledge into power.
The Djinnborn Marzban brings spellcasting superiority and leadership, the Academy Expeditioner takes the fight directly to the enemy, while the Shieldbearer provides a durable frontline presence to protect the models behind.
Together, they give the Sand Kingdoms new ways to fight and undertake Quests, allowing them to play a more aggressive game without abandoning the arcane identity the faction is known for.
