After completing their studies at the Grand Academy and earning a Warrant of Praxis, young arcanists must first fulfill their obligation to the institution. By custom, each graduate is expected to mentor at least one younger adept, repaying their own tutelage by guiding another along the arcane path.

Once this duty is fulfilled, many choose to leave the academic halls behind and seek experience beyond the confines of formal study. Though few attain further recognition within the Academy, their time in the wider world allows them to put theory into practice and develop their talents through experience in the field.

Warranted arcanists are in high demand, often employed to survey ancient sites or recover lost relics. Others lend their expertise to matters involving unusual or unstable magical phenomena. Their education and independence make them valuable wherever arcane knowledge is required far from the safety of the Academy.

Yet not all remain content in the service of others. Some discover that the freedom afforded by their Warrant offers opportunities of its own and begin pursuing ambitions beyond those prescribed by the Academy. For some, this means discovery and adventure. For others, the distinction between scholar and treasure hunter becomes increasingly difficult to discern.

“I go wherever I please and do whatever I please. Others read about fantastical adventures. I live them.”
